About Huey Peters
Originally from Europe, traveling at a young age to multiple countries and the continent of Africa probably awakened Huey Peters' curiosity in his surroundings. In high school and in early college years, Huey was involved in theatrical production lighting. He was the school sports photographer and worked on the production of the school yearbook. After a tour in Viet Nam in the Marine Corps, he settled down and started his family. In 1972, he purchased his first new Olympus 35 MM SLR and never looked back. He developed his skill in photography while pursuing his other loves - backpacking and trekking through the Sierras, John Muir Trail and the Great Pacific Trail with his cameras. In 1980, he changed professions, entering the world of medical imaging - particularly ultrasound and nuclear medicine. Photography remained an avocation at this time of long hours and on-call hospital duty. In 1999, Huey met a great photographer and formed a kinship that resulted in perfecting his art. In 2002 they formed the Easter Sierra Photography Club. One of the members was a retired professional photographer, whose influence inspired Huey to create Our Friends Photography. Huey has shown his work in different galleries in the Eastern and Western Sierras. he teaches digital photography and participates in photography competitions. he has won multiple awards including "Best of Show" of over 1000 entries in the Tri-County Fair of the Eastern Sierras. While continuing to sharpen his skill and obtaining photography assignments, his wife retired and moved to Arkansas to be closer to her ancestral family home. Huey finally retired from the medical profession and joined her in Mountain View, Arkansas. It was at this time that he was able to pursue his new vocation as a full-time photographer. He continues to travel and maintain close contact with his ever-broadening circle of peers. Artists' Statement
As a professional freelance and portrait photographer, my time is divided between my studio operation and cross-country photography excursions. My studio is located in Mountain View, Arkansas, where I relocated from California in 2006. it is a new building with two offices and studio set up for portraiture, advertising, digital reproduction and photography instruction. My equipment is state-of-the-art, color sensitive tools use the giclee process to print faithful reproductions of original art. To maintain my edge and to perfect my skill, I attend different photography workshops and manufacturers conventions with my wife each year. I accept commissions from corporations and the private sector, which fit in my traveling schedule. However, the bulk of my photography is of the great outdoors. My theme usually represents unique historical glimpses of the Western American history with an emphasis on the gold rush era - ghost towns, historical buildings, mining towns and the Western way of life. I include pieces from the turn of the century through the golden times for the 1950s. Route 66 with its rich history and large vistas has always intrigued me. I am continually learning and experimenting in HDR (high dynamic range), panoramic pictures, and Photoshop. high-key lighting, dramatic focus, play in depth of field, repeating pattern, and controlled color palette are elements of my approach. I do use the set of known and proven rules of composition, but I have been known to break a few in the hope of producing a unique photo. My artistic approach usually complements contemporary and progressive interiors in corporate settings as well as private residences.
