Dona Sawyer - Turkey Creek Creations -Jewelry & Stained Glass

I was born and raised in Florida and moved to Arkansas in 1983. I work for the USDA Farm Service Agency and was transferred to Mountain View in 1997. In 2004, I found the perfect little 10-acre horse farm situated in a beautiful, peaceful valley on Turkey Creek. Through my ties at the Ozark Folk Center, I began to meet artists in the area which inspired me to get back to my folk artist roots. Although I don't have any formal training in the arts, I was lucky enough to be born into a very talented family. My parents, sisters and some extended family all dabble in the arts. I was encouraged to pursue whatever arts or crafts I was interested in from a very early age and discovered that, like the rest of my family, I have a natural artistic talent. This talent has enabled me to teach myself whatever passion takes me at the time, simply from reading books or watching it on TV.

I have participated in all but the very first Ozark Folk School at the Ozark Folk Center where I have discovered the joy of sharing art with other people and drawing creative energy from that. I have also taught an array of different classes at the Folk Center. I am a member of the Art Guild, where I have participated in classes and have been invited to teach. I have entered my work at the County Fair, where I usually win "Best of Show", and have even gone on to win at the state level for my seamstress skills.

I consider myself fortunate to have found such a wonderful place as Mountain View. A place where talented people have congregated and relate to one another so well. I am constantly amazed at the amount of talent of all kinds that is here and feel that at times when artists gather the artistic energy is almost palpable. I feel privileged for being so warmly welcomed and am thankful for the opportunity of being a part of this community.
